October 12, 2011: To mark National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, breast cancer survivor and yoga instructor Claire Petretti is releasing a Yoga for Cancer Recovery DVD. Petretti designed the class specifically for individuals going through cancer treatment or recovery. Petretti is an E-RYT Yoga Alliance instructor and holds a Yoga for Cancer Therapy certification. She has been practicing, studying, and teaching yoga for more than a decade. A portion of the proceeds from the DVD sales will be donated to cancer research.
Petretti, nominated as a Finalist in San Diego Magazine’s 2011 Woman of the Year, credits practicing and teaching yoga as essential components of her journey back to radiant health. “The art of
yoga aided my physical and emotional healing by helping me manage the anxieties associated with treatment, giving me more energy, increasing circulation and reducing sleeplessness,”
Petretti said. Her breast cancer journey was captured on her blog and is currently being adapted into a book.
The 90-minute DVD includes a 60-minute practice designed to help restore bone loss and muscular strength, while enhancing circulation, digestion and lymphatic flow. The 30-minute Relaxation practice is designed to dissolve stress, alleviate pain and soothe the spirit. In addition to cancer survivor Petretti, who leads the class, five other cancer survivors, varying in age from 32 to 69 years old, join the practice. The DVD is available at www.oceansoulyoga.com and on amazon.com for $19.99.
Since her diagnosis in 2010 and recovery, Petretti has lectured extensively for the Young Survival Coalition, Keep-a-Breast, American Cancer Society and City of Hope, among others. She was also the keynote speaker and one of five featured yoga instructors for the first Yoga for Hope event in San Diego benefitting City of Hope, ranked as one of “America’s Best Hospitals” in cancer and urology by U.S. News & World Report. She is now the Chairperson for the annual Yoga for Hope event in San Diego.

Miss Nixon, Adrienne, and I cruised up to Sherman Oaks, CA for a meet and greet with Kris Carr last night. I was pumped to be part of Kris's posse in her first book, Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips, and I'm looking forward to reading what she has to share in her new book, Crazy Sexy Diet.

For breast cancer survivors of all ages, feeling at peace with your new body is the key to having a deep and passionate connection to life. Join us for a one-day, awakening retreat where you will be guided through the process of establishing a loving and accepting relationship with your body, heart and mind– the entire self.
In a relaxing and supportive environment, we will journey toward cultivating gentler and kinder attitudes toward ourselves, lying to rest myths and beliefs that no longer serve us. In one day, a variety of creative outlets will be used to help you re-connect with the inner resources everyone possesses that contribute to vitality. Together we will embark on a positive quest, practicing guided meditation, storytelling, collage making, yoga, and many more artistic rituals along the way. Through this spiritual voyage, you will be empowered to adopt a holistic and well-poised image of yourself and your body.
Everyone in attendance will learn to forge a connection between imagination and reality while awakening the unique beauty within, allowing it to radiate through the surface and shine out, illuminating your life. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
